Meeting at the Viljandi art gallery
Viljandi High School is probably the only school in the world where curating contemporary art is part of the curriculum. The first curatorship class taught by Eve Kiiler ja Monika Mändmaa took place in 2013 and it finished with a group exhibition at the Viljandi art gallery. Pupils aged 15-17 curated some of the most important contemporary artists and brought together a good variety of art works from both private and museum collections. During the exhibition I was asked to give a talk about art education (I think) and introduce myself to the people in Viljandi – as it was just a month before I took over the directorship of Kondas Centre of Naive and Outsider Art from Mari Vallikivi.
This is a photo from the opening event with Laineli Parrest reading out what seems to be a long welcoming address. The topic was our relation to nature. Kai Kaljo, Erki Kasemets, Peeter Laurits, Gabriela Liivamägi, Arne Maasik, Raul Meel, Silja Saarepuu ja Villu Plink, Ene-Liis Semper, Jaan Toomik, Kadarik Tüür Arhitektid, Sigrid Viir and Jasper Zoova took part of the exhibition.
